There are many behaviors both good and bad that will inevitably draw attention and garner a response. Response contingent is caused the response or produced by the response (Malott & Shane, 2014). What this means is that when a person receives a response form another individual such as crying from a sad story, the crying would be the response contingent. In abnormal psychology researchers try to understand what causes those abnormalities and how to potentially combat the negative thoughts or behaviors. There are times when someone does something inappropriate, but continues to do so because those around that person reinforce that behavior by praising it in some way, or encouraging it. After long periods of time when someone has had reinforcement for the ill behavior, what can be done to hep that person understand what that had been doing is inappropriate?
