Assessment Type: Individual written assignment in a report format of 1200 -1500 words.
Purpose: This assessment contributes to Learning Outcomes a and b.
Assessment 1 is a written report about systems analysis. The report is designed to assess your practical understanding of systems analysis within a systems project. Assessment 1 aims to develop your understanding of issues in systems planning, analysis, design, testing and deployment and your skills to analyse different phases of the system development life cycle.
Topic: Students are required to select a case study and write a report with a detailed analysis of the current system, identify any problems or inefficiencies, and suggest improvements or solutions to these issues assuming the role of a system analyst.
This is an individual assignment where every student should prepare their report on any of their chosen case studies/business type such as:

Students should consult with their lecturer or tutor (either in person or via email) to get their topic approved and to make sure that there is not much overlap between individual students. Once the topic has been approved, students should begin the preliminary work for the assignment.
Your report should describe each of the following activities of systems analysis:
a. Explain the case study for the chosen organisation and identify the current business processes, and information systems used by the organisation. Identify the issues they are facing and discuss how the organisation's operations can be improved or streamlined through the implementation of a new system.
b. Identify the appropriate software development methodology that can be used for the project. Provide justification for why you choose this methodology and discuss how it will influence the design and development process of the proposed system.
c. Identify functional and non-functional requirements of the system being developed. Identify and describe three different requirement investigation techniques.
d. Identify the different stakeholders and types of information the organisation needs to collect and make available to its staff members and other stakeholders. Provide a list of open-ended and dosed-ended questions that will be used to elicit the required information from the stakeholders.
