Learning Journal & Self-Assessment Tests : You are expected to keep a journal, in which you reflect on your professional and personal experiences in light of the issues we have discussed in the video lectures and what you have seen in the readings. The purpose of keeping a journal is to help you engage class content in a deeper ongoing manner. You should write your reflections on events happening in your professional and personal life. However, this is not a diary about your personal life as such. Therefore, your comments must be connected to things we are working on in the class. In other words, you must integrate experience and theory. Please note that observations and description are not sufficient. Each entry should apply the insights of the readings and class discussion to your experiences, so be specific and address real issues you have seen or experienced in your professional and personal life.
In addition to writing about your observations and experiences, you will complete two self-assessment tests per journal entry. You should take the assigned self-assessment tests, calculate your score, and write at least two paragraphs for each assessment that tell what you learned about yourself, what the textbook says about the topic (cite page number), how could this new insight change the way that you relate to people in your professional and personal life, and anything else that you want to record.
Your entries will be confidential and will not be seen by anybody else except me. Journal entries should be made every other week and then submitted to the BBLearn before the deadline. The journal overall (3 entries) will count for around 12% of your grade. Write rich, detailed entries rather than short, superficial comments or observations, and emphasize the importance of relating entries to the class. Your entry about the following topics should be minimum three (3) pages in length (double spaced, 12-point font size):
Entry 1 :
• Discuss how the integrative OB model will help you to improve your understanding of relationships and/or events in your professional and personal life. Describe your analysis and explain how the class content provided new insights or a better mental model.
• Complete the Self-Assessment Tests and then discuss what you learned about yourself, what the textbook says about the topics (cite page number), and how this new insight could change your relationships in your personal and professional life.
