Question
Kelly believed that people look at their world through templates that they compose and then attempt to fit over the realities of the world. He called these templates, or transparent patterns, personal constructs, which he believed shape learned behavior.
Skinner believed that human behavior, like any other natural phenomena, is subject to the laws of science, and that psychologists should not attribute inner motivations to it. Skinner believed that learned human behavior is shaped by three forces: (1) natural selection, (2) the evolution of cultures, and (3) the individual's personal history of reinforcement, where rewarded behaviors are repeated and punished behaviors typically stop.
Bandura takes a broad view of learning, believing that people learn through observing others and by attending to the consequences of their own actions. Although he believes that reinforcement aids learning, he contends that people can learn in the absence of reinforcement and even of a response.
This discussion will involve personality and learning. Earlier we looked at personality from a nature or genetic basis as stated by trait theorists. Now, let's look at it from a nurture or environmental basis. Is our personality determined by learned behavior?
Discuss how personality can have a strong environmental basis as you look at 2 different worldwide cultures, not including the culture with which you identify. Just give me 2 examples - 1 from each culture - that is seen to have a strong environmental basis. Is our personality determined by situational forces? FYI - if you disagree with this - say so and give me 2 examples why you disagree.
