Beth, a pediatric nurse, has achieved nearly a year of recovery working closely with an addition therapist. As the results of severe family stresses, Beth relapses and while intoxicated calls her therapist and says she will drink herself to death. She hangs up on her therapist when he asks her to come in voluntarily. The therapist worries that if he sends the police to bring her into the emergency department for evaluation, Beth will no longer trust him and may discontinue treatment.
1. Select a policy related to addiction that corresponds with the select client scenario.
2. How does this inform or guide your work with this client?
3. Are there any current societal trends that will have a direct impact on the services to this client or accessibility to services for this client?
4. Discuss how any social, economic, or political frameworks could have a negative impact on services or access to services for this client.
Make sure to tie your discussion specifically to the policy you selected, as well as to the specifics of your selected scenario. The key again is helping you to see the interconnectedness with person in environment perspective in social work practice and in particular in social work practice in the addiction field. For this section you will explore at least one policy that would directly impact this particular client scenario, however, you cannot use CARA from the week 1 assignment.
