As you continue studying environmental science, it is important to consider your personal vision. A strong professional vision will help you identify the impacts you want to have on local, social, and global communities. You will be able to identify organizations that share visions consistent with yours to ensure your career path is fulfilling. Sometimes, learning about developing our own vision comes from studying others who came before us. In this assignment, you will examine the professional vision of an environmental scientist and then develop a professional vision for yourself.
Select an environmental scientist to learn about and research. You may select one of the following environmental scientists:
- Rosemary and Peter Grant
- Michael L. Rosenzweig
- Stephen J. Gould
- E. O. Wilson
- Robert H. MacArthur
- A current, practicing environmental scientist with projects related to landscape structure, as approved by your faculty member
Part 1: Report
Research your selected scientist to discover the following:
- Name and date of birth
- State, region, and/or country of residence
- Work the environmental scientist conducted that was related to landscape structure and large-scale ecology
- The impact the scientist wanted to have on local, social, and global communities
- Work and/or accomplishments that helped the scientist achieve those impacts
- The organizations/companies the scientist was employed by and/or affiliated with
- The public perception of the scientist (i.e., What is the scientist known for?)
Create a 300- to 500-word report that discusses the history and impact of an environmental scientist.
Include the following in your report:
- Research: Summarize the findings from your research. Be sure to address each of the components listed above.
