Q. Patrick Allen worked for Otis Equipment Corp. as a project engineer. Allen was allowed to keep a company van and tools at his home, because he routinely drove to work sites directly from his home and because he often needed them for unexpected business trips during his off hours. Allen was involved in a collision with Terrell Scott while driving the van home from work one day. At the time of the accident, Allen has taken a detour in order to stop at the grocery store-he had intended to purchase a few items and then go home. Scott sued Otis Equipment.
