Including Students with Disabilities in General Education Classrooms

Inclusion: The Pros and Cons

For this part, you will need to review the CASE STUDY and THE 504 Plan that is attached to our ANNOUNCEMENT.

The topic we will have this week and in the coming weeks is advocacy. I have included a case study. It is a real 504 plan. Briefly- what happened was this student received a D in his English class, the first D ever. The problem is there are safeguards in the 504 that were not followed. You can read along in the narrative and see just how long it takes for an advocate to get things addressed (Yes, this is an actual narrative from emails and meetings).

What are your thoughts about what happened? Was the procedure followed? If you were the parent, what are your options? Any surprises?

Question VI. Review the Case Study - Adaptive Leadership and answer the questions at the end.

In recent months, the company's sales have declined considerably, and profits are down by over twenty percent. Randall did a market analysis and discovered that the company is losing business to a new online used car dealership that maintains an inventory of over 2,500 cars and services a tri-state area, including the metropolitan area where Randall's company is located.

Randall discusses this with his team of sales representatives and suggests that they need to change the way they do business. He recommends that they develop a website and allow customers to do business online, as well as in person at the dealership. He also suggests that they need to purchase a nearby vacant lot and use it to increase their inventory. In addition, he encourages the team to begin using online techniques, such as e-mail, to reach out to customers.

The sales team is very resistant to Randall's recommendations. They are comfortable with their current way of doing business and do not want to make changes. They also dislike the idea of increasing their inventory, stating that it is difficult enough to track 500 cars. They do not want a larger inventory.

Randall remains adamant that the dealership must change its sales approach, and he shares the latest sales data as evidence that he is correct. When it becomes obvious that the dealership will not continue with business as usual, two sales representatives quit in frustration. The rest of the team continues to work for Randall, but they are irritable and unhappy. Despite this, Randall moves forward with his plan to implement changes.

Question A. How do you define the problem that Randall is trying to address? Is this a technical or an adaptive challenge? Why?

Question B. What is your reaction to the actions Randall has taken in this situation? How do you think what he did fits in with the six principles of adaptive leadership: get on the balcony, identify your adaptive challenge, regulate distress, maintain disciplined attention, give the work back to subordinates, and protect leadership voices from below?

Question C. If you were giving advice to Randall on how to handle this situation, what would you say? If you were giving advice to his team, what would you say? Why?

Question VII. Recognizing that there is a crisis is often the most difficult aspect of crisis management. One approach is to apply a "litmus test." This test would include several questions to determine if a potential crisis exists. List and explain at least two questions you would ask to determine if a crisis exists.

Question VIII. How does the Deming cycle apply to the Business Continuity Management Systems? Identify a few of the pros and cons of this model? When would you recommend using it?

Question IX. Topic A: Physician Assisted Suicide

Some people promote the idea that humans should have the right to die with dignity. Several states have legalized physician-assisted suicide (PAS). However, others may argue that a doctor prescribing a deadly prescription violates that doctor's Hippocratic Oath or claim that suicide by any means is immoral. Doing research and taking into consideration the actual laws concerning when and how a confirmed terminal patient would be able to request PAS, make an argument that it is or is not a moral action. Also see if you can find Kant's famous argument on the immorality of suicide. Does he have a point or are there just some times when the morally right thing to do is to allow a person to end his or her suffering?

Question X. Present an argument, with research, that the government should or should not stop all spying on anyone who is a confirmed citizen by birth or naturalization. If you chose "should not," be sure to explain under what circumstances and by what theory such spying is morally justified.

Question XI. How effective are police officer body camera initiatives impacting on policing leadership and officer accountability? Explain.

Question XII. Discuss in detail how computer databases and information networks may be useful in criminal investigations. Discuss in detail how crime analysis (crime mapping and geospatial technology) may be useful as a tool in criminal investigations, e.g., home burglary, auto theft, or other crimes.

Question XIII. What is physician assisted suicide and how does it differ from euthanasia? Describe issues for health service managers as it relates to physician assisted suicide. Identify a state law (USA) to support or opposes this service.

Question XIV. In your post you will research various billing and coding regulations and determine which ones apply to prospective payment systems. Reflect on how these regulations affect reimbursement in a healthcare organization. Assess the impact of regulations on reimbursement in a healthcare organization and explain what you think is working and what could be a challenge. If possible, bring in a real-world example either
