Case Study:

Tammy is a 10-year-old bi-racial, White-Hispanic, female who is in the fourth grade. She has been demonstrating ongoing peer relationship issues (i.e., harsh language, inappropriate touching of private parts, stealing, playing with fecal matter). She also is academically falling behind in class and has decreased attention span. Her parents and school counselors were brought in to help provide counseling for her explicative behavior.

Tammy's parents are divorced and fought for custody over Tammy. Her mom did not have a steady job or steady housing and therefore, the court gave temporary full custody to her father and uncle. Tammy's mom and grandmother would visit her weekly, and Tammy's behavior would show extreme shifts after their visits. 6 months after initial school involvement (with counselors) Tammy and mom went to local clinic for battered/abused women and children's shelter where Tammy admitted to being sexually abused by her dad and uncle. Tammy was then placed with mom while investigation into dad and uncle were occurring.
