Idaho is one of the United States' biggest producers of milk and dairy products, in part because the state's regulations are hospitable to large concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). More CAFOs often mean more jobs, but also more air and water pollution, which is important to note because most drinking water in Idaho comes from groundwater. As production of milk and dairy products has increased in Idaho, the number of dairy farm operations has dramatically decreased as small operators are bought out by CAFOs. Keep all this in mind as you research your assignment. You've each been assigned a stakeholder position in this discussion of whether to approve another CAFO in Canyon County, Idaho.
