Overview of MIS Business Applications Activities

To provide you with an opportunity to practice on how to use information systems in a business, you'll be working with your group on eight group activities titled "Thinking IT Through: Application Exercises to Achieve Excellence". These activities allow you to think about how management information systems impact a business and how they can be leveraged to create operational excellence and competitive advantage.

What is involved?

• As a group, you will come up with a fictional business
• Your fictional business will follow you throughout the semester as you "Think IT Through" in the six Business Application Activities and make decisions that provide the best MIS for your business entity
• Start by deciding the business you want to establish, thinking carefully about what you are proposing as you will be expected to think about how your business will respond to a variety of scenarios/questions with each assignment.

Learning Objectives for the Six Business Application Activities

1. Discuss common applications of computers and information systems.
2. Collaborate with a team to brainstorm and develop recommendations for a fictional business.
3. Apply concepts of strategy and creating a competitive advantage in recommendations for a fictional business operation
4. Identify MIS policies critical for your fictional business
5. Identify the potential applications of hardware for a fictional business.
6. Identify the potential applications of software for a fictional business.
7. Summarize the MIS system and its implementation for your fictional business.
8. Discuss the impact of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging trends on your fictional business.
