The characteristics of technical communication include media that: addresses a specific audience; helps readers solve problems; is produced collaboratively; formats a document; consists of words or graphics or both.

2. Using a reputable or credible source (such as Webster's Collegiate Dictionary), find and understand the definition of a poem. Then read the
poem "A Poison Tree" (following page).

University of Florida's technical article about the manchineel tree (following the poem).

4. Write a brief essay in which you:

A. List similarities and differences between the poem and prose descriptions of the poison trees.

B. Include a short paragraph that applies the characteristics of technical communication to the prose description of the poison tree. In other words, answer the question: What characteristics of technical writing does the prose description contain? Does the poem contain any characteristics of technical writing?
