ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE: The objective of this assignment is to apply concepts from the textbook to a current or past interpersonal relationship.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:
- Select a current or past relationship that has had an impact on your life. The relationship may be with any person and can be a romantic relationship, a family relationship, a friendship, a relationship with a co-worker, a mentoring relationship, or any relationship that qualifies as an interpersonal relationship. The relationship should not be with a young child.
- Write a two-to-three page paper about your relationship.
- Your paper should be constructed in the following manner:
INTRODUCTION - In the introduction of the paper, you should:
- Discuss a brief history and current state of the relationship you have selected.
- Define interpersonal communication -I would encourage you to ‘google' a definition that best applies to the relationship you are describing.
- Preview the body of the paper by stating the five concepts you will discuss in the paper. Some examples of concepts are age, smile, channel, decoding, encoding, eye contact, hearing, message listening, nonverbal, etc. Please review the glossary listed at the back of the textbook.
BODY - In the body of your paper, you should:
- Define each concept and provide two examples of how it applies to your relationship. For example, you will define listening and provide an example of how your spouse or love one does listening or does not listen.
Continue with each concept in different paragraphs. You should have five paragraphs in the body of your paper.
CONCLUSION - In the conclusion of your paper, you should:
- Summarize your main points and discuss what you have learned from this assignment.
