Refer to the concepts presented in Chapters 18 and 19 of the textbook to address the questions related Part 1 and Part 2 in a minimum of 1,000 words. Ensure that you use appropriate headings and subheadings to identify which topic you are discussing and the specific question you are analyzing. You are required to include at least two scholarly references and you are encouraged to utilize the GCU Library and other external sources to find cases, ethics reviews, and legal terminology.

Part 1: Employee Monitoring

Provide an overview of employee monitoring by employers outside the workplace.
Discuss relevant laws relating to the ability of employers to monitor employees during nonwork hours and nonwork activities.
Explain two legal standards and regulations for workplace employee monitoring that are critical for successful business operations.
Discuss at least two cases that involve employee monitoring outside of the workplace and work hours.
Discuss the court's holding and reasoning. How did the holdings affect the workplace?
Discuss ethical issues regarding employer monitoring of employees during nonwork hours and nonwork activities.
Discuss how the monitoring of employees affects business decision making, including discriminatory behavior.
Discuss whether monitoring employees during nonwork hours and nonwork activities should be allowed and provide a rationale to support your decision.

Part 2: Religion in a Community Context

Discuss the laws, regulations, and effects of religious-based lawsuits on business and public schools.
Discuss at least one U.S. Supreme Court decision in both business and public schools where freedom of religion was supported or denied by the court.
Discuss the ethical basis for allowing religion to be a factor in either situation--business or public schools.
Discuss what the government and courts allow as far as accommodations in either setting--business or public schools.
Discuss under which circumstances employers should be allowed to limit freedom of religion in the workplace.
Part 3: Draft Memo to the CEO

The CEO has communicated to you the following dilemmas. Utilizing the previous research you conducted in Parts 1 and 2, draft a memo of 500 words responding to each dilemma. Provide references to support your stance. Your instructor will provide feedback for you to review and incorporate into the Final Memo to the CEO assignment, due in Topic 6.

Dilemma 1: Determine the level and extent of monitoring for our business: Are we legally allowed in Arizona to monitor employees smoking habits? Additionally, may we also test for the use of cannabis in any form? What are the ethical considerations of this testing, even if it is deemed legal?

Dilemma 2: Describe any specific accommodations we may need to make for religious principles? Provide insight on the current position of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on these types of religious accommodations.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
