Assignment:

You work in a local school where have you been assigned to support the classroom teacher for Year 5 in providing meaningful learning experiences for the Indigenous students. An Indigenous family wants to place their child at the school but want to be sure that they will be involved appropriately. Additionally, they are concerned about their child, who is struggling with some personal issues, and they want to be sure that the staff can support his education while he works through these issues and that the staff can help him overcome these barriers appropriately.

Your teacher has asked you to:

a. Discuss and suggest ways they could be involved and engaged with the classroom environment by sharing information as members of the community, either personally or through resources.

b. Discuss appropriate communication and teaching strategies you would use for this indigenous student who is struggling with personal issues. In your response, provide an example of how student needs can inform and adjust delivery of lessons or activities.

c. Discuss strategies you can apply for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students which can overcome barriers to learning in ways that suit student's individual needs. In your response, include how you would obtain advice on these barriers.
