Question - Discuss and list the steps for the referral process; compile a chart checklist to follow these steps. Conduct an observation of one child in a classroom. Does the child need a referral? If so, what type of referral? To which agency?

Keep in mind that you do not know this child and we do not make decisions about the child until after a referral has been submitted, testing and observations have been done, and the Individualized Education Program, (IEP) committee meets to go over the outcomes and then and only then is a decision made.

For purposes of this observation, you will notice a behavior and take it from there. You are not really making a decision about a real child. You are observing and recording what you see and hear to "paint a mental picture" of the situation. Here is an example of a behavior issue.
