Paul Plaintiff is a certified public accountant (CPA) who is hired by Evil Company, a private-sector employer, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Paul has no individual employment contract, but is given an Employee Handbook that includes the following provision: "employees will be placed on warning before any termination of employment." Six months into his employment, Paul's boss directs him to falsify some tax returns. Paul objects, stating that he could lose his certification as a CPA for committing fraud. Paul's boss immediately terminates his employment, stating, "we do not need any timid losers working at Evil Company."
