An inmate asks you to mail a letter for him because he's on day lock,( confinement) with no privileges. He tells you that you can open the envelope and look at it to make sure it is okay; it is only a birthday card for his daughter. If it doesn't get in the mail today, she will not get it in time. He is a good inmate, never gives you any trouble, and has helped you out a few times with more troublesome inmates. You believe that there is nothing wrong with the card, and you think the guy got a bad deal with the discipline anyway because he was only out of place and that usually gets only a warning, not day lock.
You also know that if you do the favor for him, he will continue to be a help to you on the tier, and if you don't, he'll probably hold it against you.
