We look at how attitudes form and are changed, and how these are influenced by various factors. Consider advertising and consumer psychology more generally. How do marketers and advertisements try to influence our attitude about a product? How do they try to change our attitudes about ourselves? If you want to go deeper, consider the ideas of Herbert Marcuse, who in the 1950s and 60s suggested that our very attitudes about ourselves were too-often influenced by consumer messages to equate our self-worth with what we owned, what and how we consumed media and products. He proposed that marketing fabricated new desires (I must have the latest version of smartphone X) that distanced us from what we actually desire: meaningful work and social connection.
