Plant evolution has in part been driven by abiotic factors and disturbance. As a consequence, Australian native flora has developed specific adaptations to deal with abiotic stress. These adaptations can be morphological, physiological and can include associations with other biotic organisms. Three key abiotic factors which have had a major bearing on plant adaptations in Australian biomes are: light, water and fire.
