Question 1: Derrick and Dreher seem to reach different conclusions about the Wisdom of Benedict, because they have different views of society. In Derrick's view, the culture is profoundly non-Christian, but we can take the good parts of Benedict and begin to implement it in our lives.

Question 2: Dreher disagrees and thinks the culture is fundamentally anti-religious, anti-Christian. As such, we can't just pick and choose good parts of Benedict's example. Instead, Dreher thinks we need to more radically imitate St. Benedict, maybe changing the way we live, our friends, careers, where we live.
