Antibiotic resistance is complex, and the factors that create conditions for resistance are wide. I would like you to take a broader view of the threats of antibiotic resistance than simply one of over prescription. These factors which are contributing to this crisis include medicine, economics, diets and production, all of which are working together to usher in a frightening future.

For the readings and the assignment, please think about the root causes of antibiotic resistance. Think about the biological pathways that create resistance and how they interact with wider global changes and processes. I would also like for you to think about how a changing world is creating conditions for antibiotic resistance and about how the solutions will require deep thinking by people in a wide range of fields, from medicine, public health, industry, government and the public.
