Question: ON-LINE POSTINGS: Three on-line postings, submitted to the relevant Exam Period module of the class Canvas site -- one per exam period - count toward your final point total. Your lowest posting score is dropped, so you can submit a post during all four exam periods, but again only three will count toward your final grade. If you earned perfect scores on your first three submitted during the first three exam periods, you do not need to submit a post during the last exam period. Two postings for a grade cannot be submitted during the same exam period. Postings are due Friday at 5 pm at the end of the exam period, with the exception of the posting for the last exam period which must be submitted no later than 5 PM on Friday, November 30 (NOT the last day of class). Students may submit non-graded postings to the discussion forums, but only students' first posting during a given exam period will be graded (editing a post after it is submitted is not permitted, so make sure it looks good before submitting). Remember to keep a copy of your post before you submit it as a backup.
Each posting must reflect on a recent media-related news item. You may do this by submitting a post summarizing and reacting to an item from one of these websites:
• Variety
• Billboard Biz Industry News
• Advertising Age
• Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting Blog
Your reaction can be a reflection on the implications of the news story, or whether you believe it is a good or bad trend, and why. To maximize credit, posts should be at least 300 words long, be on topic, be professionally written, make factually correct claims, offer a claim or argument beyond just summarizing the news item, use full-sentences and correct grammar/spelling, be in your own words (except in using short direct quotes, indicated by quotation marks), indicate what website and date the story came from, and be respectful to others in the class. Failure to submit a post by the deadline may mean that you will receive a "zero" for that exam period post score (this is not a problem as long as you submit during the other three exam periods).
