We learned about the power of social institutions throughout this class. Using your experiences and those of others we have read or learned about this session, argue for why family is an instrumental institution in shaping social life and perpetuating inequality, both between and within social groups (for example, inequality between men and women, but also among/within men) and make a strong case for why it is so important.

In this you should discuss Lareau's parenting styles and forms of capital, in addition to other pertinent concepts. The most effective answers will draw on tangible examples from multiple readings, lectures, videos, and/or exercises, as well as at least two additional course concepts (beyond Lareau and capital), to generate a compelling, sociologically informed argument for your case.
