Assignment:

These are just a few sources supporting my topic on the discussion about the implications of paying student athletes. In the article "The Case for Paying College Athletes" the author talks about how coaches and the university are paid millions of dollars using these athletes' name and likeness. So, he feels like the athlete should be able to be paid for their own name and likeness. The differing opinion is from the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin who has concerns about how it will affect their education and who will be paying the athletes. He has concerns about how they will keep corruption out of the process while keeping a level playing field. Each author makes very valid points about their beliefs and concerns on this topic with some of their concerns being shown in today's college sports environment.

For example, the NCAA reported that it profited $1.06 billion (about $3 per person in the US) paying its president $2.7 million during the year. It also claims it paid out $3.6 billion in scholarships during the same year. (ProCon,2024) This statement is just a small sample of why people disagree on this issue.
