For this option, I would like you to focus on the texts:

• Achebe, "Achike's School Days"
• lessing, "The Old Chief M'schlanga" Each of these stories fall under the larger body of literature known as postcolonial literature, which deals with common themes as a result of European colonization in Africa. For this essay, I'd like you to pick a theme of either (a) prejudice, (b) domination and oppression, (c) power, or (d) identity in two of the African texts we've read.

Choose both of these three readings, and write an essay in which you do four things:

Question 1. Analyze and state how each of the works you chose supports the theme you've chosen to examine. You should assume your reader is familiar with the text and not spend a lot of time summarizing. In order to do this well, you will have to use examples and quotes from both works that support your analysis. This section should be about 2/3 of the body of your paper.

Question 2. Compare and Contrast As you conclude your paper, think hard about ways in which the theme you chose is treated similarly and differently in the two works.

Question 3. Finally-Closing thoughts - briefly restate your thesis, provide a summary of your analysis, and leave the reader with a compelling thought.
