Healthcare Data Sets

There are many different organizations that create and maintain healthcare data sets. By Day 1 of Week One, you will be assigned one of the following data sets to research and share with the class:

• Healthcare Effectiveness Data Set (HEDIS)

• Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS)

• Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS)

• Community Health Status Indicators (CHSI)

• Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)

• National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES)

• Diabetes Registry

• Medical Device Registry

• National Practitioner Data bank

• National survey of Ambulatory Surgery

• National Hospital Care Survey

For your assigned data set, include the following information in your initial post:

• The data source

• Data type

• A minimum of ten data elements

• Targeted population

• Purpose of the data set

• How the data is collected and used

• Identify and summarize an article/report regarding the data findings.

Initial Post: Your initial post should be a minimum of 250 to 300 words. In addition to the textbook, utilize a minimum of two scholarly sources to support your post. Cite and reference your sources in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Guided Response: Post a minimum of two follow-up responses to peers. Each peer response should be a minimum of five full sentences. Compare and contrast your initial post with your peer's post. What are the common data elements? Are the purposes similar or different? How? In addition, ask a follow-up question to at least two of your peers. Include how you would reply to the question. Your three required posts must be on three different days of the week.
