Mark is a 17-year-old high school senior who is unsure about his college plans. His parents both graduated from a local state university and want Mark to attend a local state university. Mark had planned on attending a Division school, where he hoped to earn a football scholarship and an academic scholarship for his academic performance. Mark has not had tine to participate in many volunteer activities due to his practice schedule. He also plays AAU football and was selected for the All-Star team for the state. Mark's parents want him to focus on his academics and prefer that he not get his hopes up for a football scholarship.

So far, Mark has not had any offers and appears to have become "sad" and "depressed" as the school year nears the end. His parents want him to go to counseling to improve his attitude and get back to preparing for a good" college. Mark has provided you, his counselor, with his scores on both the SAT and the ACT. His SAT Reasoning Test scores were 570 for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section, 590 for the Math score, and 500 for the Writing section. On the ACT, Mark received 22 in English, 24 in Mathematics, 21 in Reading, 23 in Science, and a Composite score of 23. Mark and his parents would like for you to convince Mark to let go of his football aspirations while pursuing his academic scholarships.

1. Based on his scores, what would you say to his parents?

3. Mark also discloses that he has some issues with anxiety as he worries about his future and the next chapter in his life. What would you recommend to help with this?
