Assignment:

We will continue to investigate the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) environmental management system and continuous improvement cycle framework for organizations. Last week, we examined that framework in the context of natural resource use, implementation, and evaluation. This week, we will examine the framework with respect to the management of human populations to advance environmental outcomes. We will do this by investigating the commitment and policy as well as planning processes of the continuous improvement cycle.

Visit the EPA's website about Environmental Management Systems and read about the continuous improvement cycle.

Imagine, again, you have been hired as a consultant to evaluate the continuous improvement cycle of a project at an environmental organization. You have been tasked with writing an executive summary of your findings, which will be presented to the organization's leadership. They will use it to implement changes that will improve future processes.

An environmental case study about the management of human populations related to the environment from the University Library. Use the Locating a Case Study Guide if you are unfamiliar with how to do this. The case study must have been published within the last 5 years and be related to one of the following industries: solid waste management, mining, agriculture, fishing, or forestry. In addition to the case study, locate and cite at least 3 sources related to the incident.

A 1,050- to one thousand two hundred and twenty two executive summary that includes the following subheadings and information:

  1. Summary of the Case Study
  2. Summarize the environmental issue and the impact of human populations on the environment.
  3. Identify the policies and/or regulations used to manage the environmental issue.
  4. Discuss how the policies and/or regulations impact the interaction between natural and human systems.
  5. Evaluation of the Continuous Improvement Cycle
  6. Note: You will need to go to the organization's website to evaluate.
  7. Evaluate the extent to which the organization from the case study managed human populations to advance environmental outcomes. Use specific examples from the case study as evidence of the organization's effectiveness in meeting each of the following components of the continuous improvement cycle. You may need to locate additional sources to support your responses.
  8. Commitment and Policy
  9. Planning
  10. Implementation
  11. Evaluation
  12. Review
  13. Recommendations
  14. Describe the organization's ability to successfully implement actions consistent with their environmental policy.
  15. Describe strengths and challenges of the organization's planning efforts.
  16. Provide specific recommendations for how the continuous improvement cycle could be enhanced.
