Assignment:
It can be argued that BPC is a context-or as we learned in the lesson module, a communication environment- in which we communicate. As we advance in our knowledge of communication we will understand that context/environment as being developed by communication.
In the lesson we learned about communication competence; essentially, having the requisite skills to be an effective communicator. You spent time working through your values and learning about the communication process. The lesson spent time with context and environment and their influence on communicators' message construction and interpretation (encoding/decoding).
The purpose of this discussion is to engage in thinking about Business and Professional Communication contexts.
Main Discussion Question: In the context of business and professional communication is it possible for a person to be communication competent and be unethical?
Supporting Points: In addressing the main question above, be sure to also discuss the following two supporting points:
1. Can you give an example, perhaps, of a situation in which you witnessed this occurring? Perhaps a situation in which you faced an ethical dilemma (as discussed in your textbook); or a time when your personal values were incongruent with organizational values (again, in your textbook).
2. What role did context, or communication environment play in your example?
- Did the context influence this dilemma?
- Did the context/environment make it easier to reconcile communication competence and ethical considerations?
