Assignment:

1. Which heresy that we dealt with in class is most damaging to our understanding of who Jesus is, particularly in how that impacts his ability to be our savior.

• Docetism is the belief that Jesus only appeared to be human and did not actually possess a physical body. This heresy undermines the true incarnation of Christ.

2. Give an example of an ancient heresy that you have encountered in your reading or discussions with others. How did you respond to what you read or heard? How would you respond differently if you heard or read that now, based on what you have learned in class so far (for example, what Scripture passages would have been helpful)?

• I have not read or even had a discussion about ancient heresy. This is my first time since I am being in a class hearing of anything. But now since I've watched the video Apollinarianism was difficult for me to understand considering it denies the full humanity of Jesus Christ.

3. Give an example of a Scripture passage that would make 1 of the heresies sound plausible. Show how someone could be led astray by taking that 1 passage in isolation from the rest of the Bible's testimony about Jesus.

• John 14:28, when Jesus says he is going away and that he will come back, and if we loved him, we would be glad that he was because he was going to send the comforter. This verse can sound as though Jesus and the Father were not equal.
