Assignment - Computer Science Discussion
Discussion 1 - As the previous units of this course have shown, being successful in your job search requires diligent effort. Review your job search plan and the interview strategy that you have developed. Write an evaluation of your efforts so far, assessing your progress and critiquing your plan to move forward. Also, review the feedback you have received from your classmates. Discuss the lessons you have learned from that feedback and what additional steps you might take at this point to increase your chances of getting a job.
Discussion 2 - One way to remain marketable in the IT world is to further your education. When considering continuing your education, a number of important questions arise that you'll need to answer. Does a graduate degree make sense for you, or will a certification program be best? Is there a good program that allows you to continue working while you attend school? Can you obtain financial aid to help pay? Does your company provide aid or a path to promotion for you if you continue your education?
Research and discuss a plan to extend your formal education via graduate school or professional certifications. Be sure to identify your learning and career goals and the types of curricula and schools that would meet those goals.
Assignment - At this point, you've defined your career goals, set up a job search to help you achieve those career goals, and you gone through the Assignment process with a list of targeted employers and positions. For this Assignment, you will focus on 1 of those targeted employers.
From the target list of prospective employers, you developed earlier, thoroughly research one specific firm. Once you've decided on one prospective employer, perform the following steps:
Provide a summary of how you determined which prospective company to focus on.
Identify 2 or 3 key decision makers/contacts that will help you gain an interview with that firm. Indicate why you believe these employees can help you get an interview.
Make a list of the things that you could do to make the interview happen. For instance, think about whether connections in your social network could help you by identifying contacts or providing some insider knowledge.
Describe how you would directly affect that company's bottom line and assist them in achieving their goals and objectives (improving quality, controlling costs, etc). Be specific: You want to get a job offer!
