Assignment 1: Harassment, Discrimination, and Bias in the Workplace Assignment:

Cultivating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace is not easy and requires continuous education. Bias in the workplace is the purposeful or accidental assumptions made when hiring candidates, delegating tasks, or comparing employees in other ways. Unconscious bias in the workplace refers to the human tendency to form opinions about others in the office without having enough relevant information. Bias can stem from stereotypes, preconceived notions, past experiences, or gut instinct. Please review the Ted Talk by Kim Scott and Trier Bryant and answer the questions below.

1. How have prejudice, stereotypes, harassment or discrimination impacted you in the workplace or your community? Provide a personal example of discrimination or harassment and explain how it made you feel.

2. Discuss three ways organizations can build healthier workplaces and minimize discrimination, harassment, and bias. Do you think that Starbucks's strategy to deal with the incident in the TedTalk was effective?
