Assignment aim:
To facilitate your reflection on the use of discourse competencies and discourse analysis theories to enhance your language teaching.

Design a detailed lesson plan, of approximately one hour duration, consisting of at least 2 tasks.

These tasks need to promote discourse skills/competencies so as to enhance the teaching of macroskills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and/or sub-skills (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation).

At least 2 different skills need to be incorporated into lesson plan.

The lesson plan should include:

Marking Criteria

• Details of the task
• Aims and objectives of the lesson
• The target audience (ESL/EFL, level of students etc.)
Appropriate choice of text(s): 5 marks
The lesson plan needs to be accompanied by 1500 word rationale
that justifies:
• the appropriateness of the discourse skills chosen to teach for the target audience
• The relevance of these discourse skills to discourse theory
• The appropriateness of the tasks and the sequence of the tasks to the target audience and EFL context.
