You are the HR Manager of IoTech Limited, a medium-sized technology company in Hong Kong. The company is selling the IoT devices to large property developers in Asia. The core values of the company are excellence, customer-oriented and innovation.
The Sales Manager, Samantha told you that she would like to terminate the employment contract with the Sales Assistant - Tom, who is responsible for supporting the general customer enquiry, and after-sales support.
Samantha told you that the job performance of Tom was not up to standard. She listed the below problematic performance issues:
- Not report duty on time recently, normally late for 15-30 mins each day. Other staff members had to take up his call before he came back.
- Not follow up closely with customer enquiry. It is the company standard to reply to customer enquiry within 1 day. However, there were a few occasions in these few months that Tom replied customer enquiry after a week.
- Received customer complaints for more than 10 times during the last few months. It was found that most of the customers were complaining about issues on follow up and inaccurate information provided for shipments.
In this company, the performance appraisals of employees are all done by their supervisors. Once the supervisor gives the rating, it will be passed to HR as a final decision.
