Diploma community services case management Childhood
Case Study 1
Angela is 2 years old and for the last four months, she attends a children's service. Her mother Jackie is 23years old. The staff of the children's service notes that Jackie has limited boundaries, and is often heard telling parents who she does not know her personal life story, including that she has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and that she has attempted suicide in the past before having Angela. The children service staffs know that Jackie attends a community mental health service but are not sure if she takes her medication. Angela is always well dressed and fed when she attends the centre and Jackie likes to tell everyone about the things they do together.
One of the children's service staff recently overhead Jackie telling another parent that she thinks Angela is smart because everyone comments on her good manners. As Angela's key worker, you are concerned that she has delayed language development and feel that she should have a hearing test and possibly a speech therapy assessment.
Today, Jackie came in looking upset and tells another staff member that she has received an eviction notice from her home.
