Of the types of "problem group members" Yalom and Leszcz (2020) list in Chapter 12 (The monolist, The silent client, The boring client, The help rejecting complainer, The acutely, psychotic client, The schizoid client, The characterologically difficult client ). Use in text citation from :"Yalom, I. D., & Leszcz, M. (2020). The theory and practice of group psychotherapy (6th ed.)".
Of the eight clinical types of problematic clients Yalom lists in chapter 12, please discuss
1. Which type(s) would be the most difficult for you to effectively manage as a group therapist. What do you think about the suggestions offered by Yalom for this particular type(s)?
2. What makes this type/these types most challenging for you (instead of listing the generic reasons that these types would be challenging for any group facilitator, specifically reflect on what makes them challenging for you personally, reflecting on your own interpersonal dynamics and relevant family-of-origin/cultural dynamics)?
3. Do you have any experience (successes or failures) in dealing with this type of client before in a group or individual setting (or in real life)?
4. Did you see any of these types emerge in the groups you observed, and if so, how did the leader react/cope?
5. Finally, how would or could culture play a role in the (mis)identifying of a problematic client?
