Assignment:
Imagine that you are a manager in charge of two new staff. Although you have only known them briefly, you noticed that they reliably exhibit a certain mindset.
Sarah is exceptionally achievement-oriented. She wants to find a career that helps her fulfil her ideals and aspiration. She comes across as a go-getter who takes any opportunistic risks it takes to achieve success.
Tom wants to maintain a steady pace in life. He is hardworking because he is frequently worried about losing his job. He does not think his career is his priority but pursues it as a responsibility toward his wife and kids.
Recently, vacancies have opened up in the Quality Audit team and the Business Innovation team. You are looking to see which staff is more suitable for each group.
1. Differentiate the mindsets exhibited by Sarah and Tom. Please choose the most characteristic mindset that differentiates the two characters based on the four mindset below (Deliberative-Implementive, Promotion-Prevention Focused, Growth-Fixed, Cognitive Dissonance-Cognitive Consistency).
2. Apply the relevant theory to determine whether Sarah and Tom's mindset will help them better fit the Quality Audit or Business Innovation team. Please describe the theory before you apply it to the case.
3. Suppose that you have noticed that Sarah's performance has fallen short of expectations over the last month. She has missed deadlines on an important project, causing it to fail. Because that project was very costly to the team, her direct supervisor is considering not passing her probation, which will cause her to lose her job. Nevertheless, you still believe that the failed project was an exception and would like to give her a chance. Demonstrate how you would frame feedback in the way that best fits her motivational mindset. Suggest what you would say to Sarah (as though you were speaking directly to her).
