You have a sample of purified protein. You do not know the number of subunits, nor the molecular weights. What techniques could you use in the laboratory to determine (1) the total molecular weight of the native protein, (2) the number of subunits and (3) the molecular weights of the subunits? Consider what could be done to differentiate multiple subunits of the same molecular weight (e.g. if Subunit A and Subunit B are different peptides but have the same molecular weight), or to determine whether some subunits are present in multiples (e.g. for every molecule of Subunit B there may be 2 molecules of Subunit C).
