An improvident and invasive consumer society, coupled with sustained population growth, is threatening to demolish resources on which human life is based. At the same time, society is locked in a struggle against time to reverse these trends and bring in sustainable practices that will ensure the welfare of future generations.
(a) Using the above argument as a reference, differentiate between sustainability and sustainable growth.
(b) As per above, societies are struggling hard to realize sustainability practices especially that the foundation of sustainable development practices are ideally based on three important pillars. Name them and support your answer with examples.
(c) The Rio declaration on environment and development proposes 27 principles of sustainability that may guide the efforts of governments, communities and organizations in an attempt to face the wasteful and invasive society whilst addressing sustainability challenges. Explain any 6 principles of these and support your answers with facts.
