There are three different types of validity evidence:

  • Content.
    • Content validity assesses how well a test's content and items measure what is intended.
  • Construct.
    • Construct validity involves the evaluation of how well a test correlates with other tests that measure similar constructs. A test's construct validity may also be evaluated by examining how well the test measures a psychological theory.
  • Criterion (predictive and concurrent).
    • Criterion validity refers to evidence of the relationship between what the test measures and some external variable (e.g., scores on another test or measure).
