Unit 15 Principles of Refurbishment - Pearson Higher Nationals in Construction and Built Environment

Assignment - Building Refurbishment: Sustainability, Scale, Obsolescence and Approvals.

Your essay should be presented in A4 portrait format. It should be around 3500 words (+ / - 10%) for the main body, be well-structured, comprising sections such as an introduction, main body, conclusion, references, bibliography and appendices.

Assignment Brief: In this assignment, assume that the company you currently work for are interested in expanding their portfolio of domestic and commercial refurbishment projects. The company's objectives include:
- being considered for future maintenance, repair and refurbishment contracts,
- gaining a regional reputation in sustainable construction practice, and
- expanding their workforce in construction skills related to refurbishment.

You are to prepare a report which will be presented to the company, explaining the following information:
- factors determining building obsolescence, such as function. (P1, P2, M1)
- sustainability issues surrounding refurbishment, such as longevity. (P3, M1)
- scales of refurbishment and their application, such as improving insulation. (P4, P5, M2)
- how Planning and Building Regulations influence the nature of refurbishment projects, such as aesthetic considerations. (P6, P7, M3)
- an overall evaluation of the refurbishment process. (D1)
