For the setting, I'll be talking about a hospital. One nationally accepted quality measure is Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems also known as HCAPHS. There are two types adult and child; adult HCAHPS is a standardized questionnaire for people 18 and older who are inpatients in medical, surgical, or obstetric departments (CAHPS Hospital Surgery, 2021). As for child HCAHPS, it is a standardized questionnaire for patients/ guardians of children 17 and younger who have been inpatient (CAHPS Hospital Surgery, 2021). This can be significant in a hospital setting as it can provide feedback on how the patients were treated during the stay. Questions that may asked are, "were the clinical staff attentive?, did the staff make you feel safe?, and were you taken care of?" The questionnaires can show what the staff can improve on or even provide feedback on what the team is doing well in.
In a hospital setting, there may be outpatient clinics also known as ambulatory services. Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) survey on patient safety culture is self-administered which can help assess how the staff perceives the safety culture. This is important as it can show the self-awareness of the employees. Since the assessment is self-administered it can show what the employees knowledge is and how he or she views this aspect. A topic is communication openness, staffing, work pressure, and pace, and organizational learning. Of the three topics, one that will be sensitive is staffing and work pressure since there only so much one can do.
The last one is the TeamSTEPPS for office based care. TeamSTEPPS is developed for use in hospitals and adapted to other settings which is customizable. This program specialized in reducing risks to patient safety by training clinicians in teamwork and communication skills (TeamSTEPPS, 2021). In many setting, teamwork and communication is important as it can affect the work flow and the working environment. This concept looks into situation monitoring which can provide an understanding of the situation and situation awareness which means "knowing whats going on around you".
