Globalization has become pervasive in almost every company. It influences the types of jobs that are available and requires companies to adjust to different geographies, cultures and legal environment. Discuss how a company can address these challenges and the role HR will play in its success to create a dominant workplace. What steps must HR take to ensure the company is going to achieve a competitive advantage through its employees?
The fast pace of companies becoming globalized does not look like it is going to slow down any time soon. New technology and better transportation has allowed businesses to reach new customers in areas they have never done business before. On the other side of the table, more consumers are able to reach out to businesses that they may have never known about had it not been for the increase in technology. Human resource managers are in a position to really help their company grow by putting together a solid plan to help their employees be well prepared for the changes that are going to occur due to more business being conducted across the globe. HR managers need to create a more diverse recruitment plan that will attract employees from different backgrounds that their customers can better relate to. Globalization has allowed companies to reach customers from diverse cultures, languages and social backgrounds (Bradley, 2016). HR departments will also need to add more professional development for its employees to strengthen their skills. These professional development opportunities could be sending their employees back to school, attending global conferences or networking events to help make their company more attractive to foreign customers and investors. To go along with professional development HR departments will need to re-structure their job training program to be more globalized. Providing language classes for call center employees or to help employees learn a new global software program will better prepare the company for globalization (Bradley, 2016). Finally HR departments are going to need fully understand the different laws that apply to doing business in a different state or country. When hiring employees in a different region there could be certain laws that pertain to minimum wage or benefit requirements that HR departments need to make sure they know in and out to avoid any legal issues. Human resource managers provide strategic advice to other department managers which will ultimately bring the entire company on board with globalization. They are instrumental in creating new policies and making sure they are implemented correctly. Employees look to HR managers as an advocate to make sure they are being treated fairly.
