Question: A study was conducted by Anderson et al. (Prev Chronic Disease, 2005) to investigate healthcare charges associated with physical inactivity, obesity, and overweight in Americans who are 40 years and older. The study was conducted with Minnesotans who were members of HealthPartners insurance from 1995 - 1999. A sample of 4674 Minnesotans was taken, and their BMI was categorized as shown in the table below. BMI Category Normal Overweight Obese Total # Minnesotans 1567 1883 1224 4674 Nationally at the time, 38.5% of Americans were categorized as having a normal weight, 38.6% as being overweight and 22.9% as being obese. Research Question - Is there evidence that Minnesotans have a different BMI distribution than the nation as a whole?
