Adam is a 4-year-old boy with spinal bifida. He will need to have his oxygen, a bagger, and suctioning equipment nearby him at all times. He typically uses his crutches or wheelchair to get around. This means I will need to provide Adam with space to move around the room comfortably. The classroom desks will have enough space for him to get through, his desk will be adjustable (height), and he will have a large area for space for his wheelchair clutches, medical supplies, and personal belongings. Classroom materials and should be at a place where Adam can access them easily. I would have Adams medical supplies in a backpack that would travel with the class as we moved around the school. Adam has strong social skills; I would want to program to support this asset. Perhaps I could have Adam help me with attendance in the morning. This would continue to let his social skills grow and support relationship building. In the classroom I would want to have toys that can be pushed (stroller, cart, large blocks, etc.) (Allen & Cowdery, 2022). As toys like this can promote strength and movement for Adam. I also think it would be a good idea to support some tummy time for Adam and allow him to spend time on tummy board. The tummy-board will support muscle growth, balance and confidence in Adam. Adam will also need the support of an Educational Assistant to support his needs. As for Ashlely turned 6-year-old. She was in an accident at two years old (Pompeo, 2024). She has a Tracheostomy, a respirator for assisting breathing, as well as a button gastrostomy (Pompeo, 2024). Just like Adam, Ashley will need extra space to move around, and classroom materials accessible. For example, putting materials on a lower shelf. Ashley will also need support from an educational assistant. Hainf a wide range of sensory toys will be important to have for Ashely as children with mobility deficits tend to get bored easily (Allen & Cowdery, 2022). Having different adaptive equipment for Ashley can be used through the day during different activities to ensure inclusion.
