Intercultural friendships can provide highly rewarding life experiences for everyone involved, but they can also end with misunderstandings and hard feelings caused by cultural differences. What cultural differences do you think are more salient in causing misunderstanding? Explain why. Have you experienced misunderstanding within your intercultural relations? What was the issue? Question 3. For one week, keep a journal of friends you talk to through social network sites, noting how long, how often, and how deeply you talk. After the week, compare networks with other students. How "diverse" is your network? What are some advantages of diverse relationship networks?
Question 4. In groups, come up with strategies for success or coping in intercultural friendships, romance, workplace relationships, or families. The Internet has many sources that might help you come up with a list. What would you add from your own experience?
