Question: Discuss the major differences between how Pepsi and Nike incorporated their brand and messaging around social justice into the Kendall Jenner and Colin Kaepernick ads that we watched in class. Describe the specific brand elements included and how the brand positioned itself alongside movements occurring at the time. Be sure that you include framing of Kendall and Colin, breaking down the way both commercials either foregrounded them or included them as part of the focal point. Relate this framing to the conversations we have had about critical race and marketing. To be successful in this essay, you should be able to break down each commercial like we did in class and describe, in detail, the significance of imagery, text, voice, framing, colors, etc to the overall message the brand was attempting to display (and whether or not those pieces made the commercials better or worse).
