Question: Managers would agree that 80% of their time is spent on managing while 20% is spent on resolving workplace conflicts. These workplace conflicts include harassment, discrimination and differences between employees or employees and management.

Conflicts result in poor performance, violation of company rules and various laws with the worst case being violence, and a negative atmosphere of anger and distrust.

Organizations have taken a proactive approach in designing and implementing dispute resolution processes to reduce conflict in the workplace.

- Identify and analyze the dispute resolution process available in your workplace or previous workplace, with particular attention to:confidentiality, timing and fair resolution, fostering trust, facilitating growth in relations etc.

- Identify a conflict in that occurred in your workplace past or present. Explain the nature of the conflict, the participants positions and the approach used to manage/resolve the problem.
