Understand the differences between anaerobic and aerobic respiration. This understanding should include the ability to explain the following objectives:

1) Understand how anaerobic organisms such as methanogens replace oxygen with other electron acceptors.

2) Understand the chemiosmotic theory of ATP synthesis.

3) Understand where these metabolic processes are occurring in the eukaryotic cell and in the prokaryotic cell and why inhibiting any step in the process is potentially destructive to the cell.
